A turkey and all the trimmings dinner at Sprucetown United Methodist Church, planned to serve 200 people and to begin May 19th at 4pm, had already sold about 40 meals before the clock struck 4!
In the days leading up to the dinner, servants of the church roasted turkeys and Penns Valley EMS Auxiliary baked cakes and meal prep continued Friday evening and Saturday morning. “If you cook it, they will come” was the thought as the parking lot filled to capacity with more parking across the street and down the roadway, all happily taking time to find their space and walk the distance to the church door.
A new take outs method was employed, allowing folks to wait comfortably outside for their meals and take them straight away to their vehicles.
Tables were so well seated, we had to get creative seating together groups of four or more, but somehow it worked out for all.
Turkey, mashed potatoes, noodles, stuffing and gravy, mixed vegetables, coleslaw, cranberry sauce and assorted cakes were enjoyed by 280 people! A loaves and fishes kind of task, but no one left hungry accept those who showed up after it was all gone.
Thank you to all who donated items, cooked and baked, prepped and served, and cleaned up after. This was one for the books, as they say!
$3000 was raised through this effort and we give God the glory!
