The Lay Servant Ministries Basic Course scheduled for October has been postponed to January 21-22, 2022. Course topics such as servant and spiritual leadership, caring ministries, basic communication skills, sharing your faith and leading meetings will enhance your knowledge and skill as a leader. This course is not designed to prepare you to preach. Those who have gifts for preaching may take the advanced course on preaching after this course. The $25 fee for the course covers your participant’s guide, refreshments throughout and lunch on Saturday. To sign up either talk to Pastor Theresa or sign up online .
St. James UMC and the Historical Paradise Church Cemetery Assn is having a Marianna’s Hoagies & Pizza Sale to benefit the ongoing care and maintenance of the cemetery! All items are $8.50. Orders and payment due Sept. 6. Delivery is Sept. 16. If you wish to place an order, Pastor Theresa will have the form Sept. 5th or you can let her know what you’d like by email or phone. Checks should be payable to St. James UMC. The next cemetery association meeting will be September 28th at 7pm at St. James. All who are interested are welcome.
August 18 or 19 – Leadership in the church are to prepare a simple report for our Church Conference this November. The Who is My Neighbor? report is to include an outreach plan that will appeal to the greatest numbers and need in our community based on data from Mission InSite. Mission InSite will hold two training events online; this Wednesday at 1p.m. and again on Thursday at 6:30 p.m. Leaders may attend one of the sessions or watch the recorded session, link will be available as soon as possible, prior to our next board and trustees meeting. August 19 – Ladies Coffee & Conversation at St. James UMC 9:45am. All ladies welcome!
August 20-29 – By request of the Bishop and Cabinet, Pastor Theresa will be on respite August 20-29. Although she is taking time apart for rest, she WILL be available for urgent pastoral care. Susan Johnson serves the pulpit during this time.
September 2 & 16 – Ladies Coffee & Conversation at St. James UMC 9:45am. All ladies welcome!
September 12 – Sprucetown Church will host a potluck lunch following worship. Bring a covered dish to share. Potluck lunches are held after worship on 2nd Sundays September through April.
September 13 – Charge SPRC’s 3rd Quarter meeting will be held at 7pm at Faith UMC Spring Mills.
September 26 – Fall Hayride and Picnic at Trinity UMC, Woodward. Bring a covered dish to share for after our safe and fun hayride through the countryside! Plenty of room to run and playground equipment for children. There are picnic tables under the pavilion and plenty of power for crockpots. Table service and beverages are provided. All are welcome! (Raindate is October 3rd)
October 27 – PV Charge SPRC’s 4th Quarter meeting, 7pm at St. James UMC
October 30 – Children’s Choice Trunk or Treat Car Show at Coburn Park, sponsored by St. James UMC. Time tba. Decorate your vehicle in a fun trunk or treat theme and give out treats to the kids and compete for the Children’s Choice award! Kids will go trick or treating at the decorated vehicles and vote for their favorite! The top three Children’s Choice vehicle owners receive an awesome prize! All are welcome!
November 7 – Fall Over Laughing: Dinner and a Show at Sprucetown Church! Bring a covered dish to share, dinner served at 5:30pm. Then get ready to giggle as we watch Thou Shalt Laugh featuring Christian stand up comedians. This will be a fun evening out so invite a friend to join you!
November 21 – The Penns Valley Charge Conference will be held Nov 21 at 2:15pm at St. James UMC in Coburn. Full membership of the church are encouraged to attend to do the business of the church. This holy conferencing event is when we vote on reports and officers for the coming year. If you have questions, contact the pastor.
December 1 – Gingerbread House Decorating Night at Sprucetown Church. Join us for decorating, snacks, music and fun 7-8:30pm. Cost is $35 all inclusive. Payable to “Heather Luse” the night of the event. Space is limited, so reserve yours now!
December 24 – Our Christmas Eve schedule includes a 3pm Christmas Eve Service at Sprucetown Church and 6pm Christmas Eve Service at St. James UMC, Coburn. All are welcome! We invite any willing to offer special music for either or both services to talk to Pastor Theresa or the musicians at the church. If we have enough interest we would love to entertain a choir piece. All who worship online will be able to watch last year’s service or our live services via Zoom.
